Variant for Red Dragon Blue Dragon:
Turn 1: Nov 4-10 Defection of 3PA, 7th Army encircled at Nianzuangxu 碾莊 1812
Turn 2: Nov 11-17 Xuzhou must be held, Suxian 宿縣 1408 fell to 中野
Turn 3: Nov 18-24 7th Army destroyed, 12th Army arrive, Mengcheng 蒙城 1106 fell to 中野
Turn 4: Nov 25-Dec 1 Xuzhou to be evacuated, 12th Army encircled at 双堆集 near Guzhen 固鎮1209

Variant 1 (Solitarie Historical) continues.

3.1 Sudden Death Victory
3.2.1 PLA player wins immediately if at the end of turns 1, 2, 3 or 4, he occupies Xuzhou (hex 1809) with an in-Supply PLA Corps.
(Variant Notes: The order to evacuate Zuzhou was approved on 28 Nov and started operational planning at night of 28 Nov)
10.1 Reinforcements
10.1.2 PLA reinforcement: On turn 2, a reinforcement will enter on a result of 1-4. On turn 3 onwards, a reinforcement will enter on a result of 1-5.
10.1.3 GMD reinforcement: On turn 3, a reinforcement will enter on a result of 1-4. On turn 4 onwards, a reinforcement will enter on a result of 1-5.
(Variant Notes: 12th Army started its attack across Hui River on 23rd Nov, near end of Turn 3)
10.2 Replacements
10.2.1 Replacements are PLA units that have been eliminated and are being returned to play after a Delay Procedure (Section 10.3).
10.2.2 Eliminated GMD units are permanently eliminated. If they pass their Loyalty Check, they go to the Permanently Eliminated Unit Box; if they fail their Loyalty Check, they follow the rules 15.2 “Failure Result” for failing GMD Loyalty Checks. All Eliminated PLA units (except Militia) roll for delay immediately and become replacements.

10.3 Delay Procedure
An important mechanism in this game is the Delay Procedure.
10.3.1 When a PLA unit is to perform a Delay Procedure, the owning player rolls 1d6.
10.3.2 The result is the number of turns the PLA unit must wait before it can return to the game as a replacement. Place the PLA unit on the TRT the number of turns ahead indicated by the rolled result.
10.3.3 If the PLA unit is to return after turn 10:
a) All Eliminated PLA units (except Militia, Case 10.2.3) are set aside. They may be
returned via Re-education (Case 15.2.2).
(Variant Notes: It took more than 3 months for GMD to rebuild their armies again)

11.2 GMD Rail Movement
11.21. Only GMD RR Security units can move by rail.
11.2.6 GMD RR Security Unit The GMD RR Security Unit may move any distance along continuous RR lines if it starts in Supply.
a) It may enter a RR hex occupied solely by a PLA Guerrilla unit (Section 18.4) but
must stop there.
b) It may move in either direction, but can’t move Out of Supply (OOS).
c) It may never leave the RR line hex. If forced to do so it is eliminated.
(Variant Notes: Due to guerillas interdiction and the Chinese Railroad system could not transport vehicles on the rail carts)

11.3 GMD Convoy Movement
Delete the whole section
(Variant Note: Due to guerillas interdiction and traffic jam on the badly built trail in China)

13.2 Explosive Launching Barrels (ELBs)
13.2.8 Each ELBs confers a Right Column **** to the combat. The PLA can only use ELB when attacking (but not defending).
(Variant Note: GMD mistaken ELB as PLA artillery barrages)

14.0 GMD AIR SUPPORT --------
Delete the whole section
(Variant Note: GMD Airforce was unable to cause much damage and interdiction in this battle)

15.1 GMD Loyalty Check
15.1.4 If the roll’s modified result falls within the range shown, the unit passes and
there is no effect and the Eliminated GMD units go to the Permanently Eliminated Units Box.

17.1 PLA Leaders
17.1.11 PLA Leader provides one favorable column shifts (to the right when attacking
and to the left when defending) on the CRT that the Leader imparts to combats that include the hex he is in. Only one Leader can be used in this fashion and this benefit is in addition to the other abilities of the Leader which can also be used in the same combat.
(Variant Notes: PLA Leaders are better than GMD Leaders in this battle)

17.2 GMD Leaders
17.2.6 The number on the GMD Leader’s counter represents their effectiveness (or lack
thereof ).
a) This value is also a negative DRM (favorable) for Loyalty Checks when units in his hex must test. If more than one Leader is in the hex, use the best single Leader’s value.
(Variant Note: GMD Leaders were ineffective in combat during this battle)

18.7 The PLA Political Offensive
18.7.3 Political Offensive Propaganda
Attacks (POPAs) During Political Offensive turns, PLA units move normally but can’t
make normal Attacks against any hex that are also attacked by Political Offensive Propaganda Attacks in this turn.
(Variant Note: PLA did attack GMD units in other areas not attacked by Political Offensive Propaganda)

19.3 Special Turn One Rules
19.3.2 All GMD units cannot move in Turn 1.
(Variant Note: Due to PLA Spy in GMD High Command)

Terrain Effects Chart (TEC)
MP cost for Road is 1 (for both GMD & PLA units) and GMD cannot use Road to negate the cost of crossing river.
(Variant Note: Due to guerillas interdiction and traffic jam on the badly built trail in China, especially for the marshy terrains in most areas in this battle)

This Variant is for solitaire play and the target players are those who would like to celebrate the PLA Victory again.

Interesting Variants

I think Foreigners never can do a successful simulation for Chinese Civil war, they didn't have such idea about Chinese philosophy, for example, why KMT armies cannot cooperate well with each others, even from same origins

Variant 2: 國軍翻盤 Ahistorical scenario 白崇禧統一指揮漢口和徐州兩個剿總

Background:
5月20日,李宗仁出任副總統,蔣介石隨即解除白崇禧的國防部長職務,改任他為“華中剿匪總司令”。白崇禧上任后堅持“守江必先守淮”戰略,建議將華中剿總設在緊靠南京的蚌埠,在徐州、蚌埠之間的江淮山嶽地帶,運用攻勢防禦,堅持長期作戰;同時指出中原必須統一指揮,不能分割使用,提出山東、河南、江蘇、安徽、江西五省聯防。
在白崇禧任命發表公布時,“五省聯防”的設想並未實現,蔣介石將華中戰區一分為二,華中剿匪總司令部設在漢口;徐州另設一剿總,劉峙任總司令,白崇禧的設想被全盤打亂。徐州四戰之地,易攻難守,不適合做指揮中心,劉峙也不是一流戰將,白崇禧大為震驚,向蔣介石直陳:“中原大軍分割使用,將來必敗無疑!”他沒有接受任命,避走上海,因蔣介石派多人到上海敦促,白崇禧才勉強到漢口上任。
9月,中共陳毅粟裕華東野戰軍佔領了濟南。林彪共軍又發動了遼瀋戰役,並首先打下錦州,隨後廖耀湘兵團在遼西大虎山地區被包圍。國軍在遼瀋戰敗已成為定局,並將面臨與共軍決戰中原。
戰局危急,國防部長何應欽、參謀總長顧祝同等在南京召開軍事會議,認為劉峙不堪擔負保衛南京重任,決議由白崇禧統一指揮漢口和徐州兩個剿總。蔣介石此時也意識到華中局勢的嚴重性,於是一改初衷,同意由白崇禧統一指揮。
10月30日,白崇禧由漢口飛抵南京,當天看起來還頗有信心,第二天忽然拒絕接受統一指揮。原來白崇禧發現,徐州剿總早已把國軍主力的幾個兵團部署在以徐州為中心的隴海鐵路及津浦鐵路線上,各一字排開,成為一個“死十字”。徐州平原無險可據,一旦開戰極易為敵軍攻破,戰事迫在眉睫,要重新遷動幾十萬大軍已無可能。加上徐州剿總的部隊將領邱清泉、黃伯韜、李彌等人都是蔣介石的黃埔愛將,白崇禧此前和他們並無淵源,難以指揮。何況這場京畿保衛戰蔣介石本人必會坐鎮南京,越級下令,就如同他在北平指揮遼瀋戰役一樣,令出多門,白崇禧難以施展。白崇禧以軍事戰略家的眼光評判,認為這是全盤錯誤的戰略部署,即是他自己出面,也無法挽救,連20%的勝算都沒有。於是,白崇禧向何應欽坦言:“徐州剿總如此部署兵力,要想把它改變已經時不我予了。”

For victory conditions, you need to play this game twice, swapping sides. The player who have achieved more VPs is the winner.
